The Crawford County Community Concert Association was started in 1975. Prior to then, the organization had been inactive two times, once between 1960 - 1974 and between 1952 - 1954.
Here is a look back at just a few of the exciting talent we've had the honor of bringing to North Central Ohio. (see more in our photo gallery)
1945 to 1951
The Nine O'Clock Opera Company - Juilliard-trained, eight-member group that was comprised of brilliant, good-looking American singers who mounted "a new type of opera presentation". The group was said to have presented operas "In crisp, idiomatic English translation; attractive, dramatic modern dress and in concentrated, fast-moving versions."
Don Cossack Choir - a group of former officers of the Russian Imperial Army. The men, dressed as Cossacks, sang a cappella in a repertory of Russian sacred and secular music, army, folk and art songs.
Men of Song - a barbershop harmony society whose members present their four-part, close harmony “a capella” style of singing.
1955 to 1959
The Revelers - an American quintet (four close harmony singers and a pianist) popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. They were stars on radio and in vaudeville, as well as in the recording studio.
Ernest & Miles Mauney - twin brothers and dual pianists from North Carolina, who learned piano at an early age and received their music degrees at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio in 1947. By 1957, they were in popular demand across the states.
1976 to 2008
Glenn Miller Orchestra
Fred Waring Show - an American quintet (four close harmony singers and a pianist) popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. They were stars on radio and in vaudeville, as well as in the recording studio.
John Raitt - one of the top Broadway baritones of the post WWII period, he maintained an incredibly resilient career that spanned over 60 years, showing remarkable power, range and stamina for a man who defied the odds by performing well into his 80s.
Ferrante & Teicher - a duo of American piano players, known for their light arrangements of familiar classical pieces, movie soundtracks, and show tunes. In 1947, they launched a full-time concert career, at first playing nightclubs, then quickly moving up to playing classical music with orchestral backing. They retired to Florida in 1989.
Guy Lombardo Royal Canadians - formed in 1924 with his brothers Carmen, Lebert, and Victor and other musicians from his hometown, Lombardo led the group to international success, billing themselves as creating "The Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven." The Lombardos are believed to have sold between 100 and 300 million phonograph records during their lifetimes.
Golden Dragon Acrobats - the best of a time honored tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago. Their daredevil feats high above the stage and award-winning acrobatics are accented by traditional dance, spectacular costumes, dramatic music and theatrical techniques.
The Four Freshmen - Grammy-nominated American male vocal band quartet that blends open-harmony jazz arrangements with the big band vocal group sounds. They've been performing since 1948 and have recorded 48 albums, CDs, and DVDs.
An Evening With Groucho - Frank Ferrante recreates his New York, London and PBS triumph as the legendary Groucho Marx in this fast-paced comedy packed with songs, stories and inspired audience interaction.
OSU Marching Band - A local favorite and one of the few all-brass and percussion bands in the country, the largest of its type in the world.
